West Midlands
From semanticweb.org
The West Midlands is a region of England, with the city of Birmingham at its centre.
The definition of the extent of the West Midlands can be made in a number of ways.
The County of the West Midlands contains the metropolitan boroughs of Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley, Sandwell, Solhull, Walsall and Wolverhampton. It is one of the Metropolitan Counties set up in 1974 changing the historic county map of England. There was a Metropolitan County Council until 1986 when it was abolished.
The wider definition of the West Midlands region is not defined in political terms, so that the boundaries are less clear. It is usually considered to include also the surrounding counties of Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire.
