Within the past five years, the Semantic Web research community has brought to maturity a comprehensive set of foundational technology components, and this both at the conceptual level and in the form of prototypes and software. However, in order for these research achievements to materialize into large scale corporate applications, they must be complemented by prototypes, methods, and best practices which support enterprises in the adoption of Semantic Web technology. This includes:
- Convincing showcases and proofs-of-concept that demonstrate the technical feasibility in relevant business scenarios.
- Methods to assess the costs and business value of semantic technology; in particular, such that help estimate the costs involved in the development and usage of ontologies, and to quantify the operational and strategic benefits of ontology-based systems.
- Metrics to evaluate and compare existing ontologies, ontology engineering methodologies, and tools in terms of technical quality and organizational fit. This includes metrics to determine the usability of a particular ontology in a specific business scenario.
- Means to monitor the quality of ontology development and deployment processes.
The availability of best practices, convincing showcases, and quantitative
and qualitative metrics that help manage the various stages of building
ontologies and ontology-based systems will be important catalysts for
disseminating Semantic Web research into enterprise applications.

[edit] Call for Papers
We invite original research papers and project reports from academia and industry that address any of the above mentioned aspects of Semantic Web technology in business applications.
The topics of interest include but are not limited to:
- Best practices and use cases of semantic technology in enterprise applications, e.g.,
- Business Process Management (BPM)
- Business Intelligence (BI)
- Customer Relationship Management (CRM)
- Decision Support Systems
- Ontology-based content integration tasks in business and public sector applications (catalog data integration, spend analysis); and
- Enterprise Application Integration (EAI).
- Methods to assess the costs and business value of semantic technology, in particular
- Methods to monitor the costs associated with the development and usage of ontologies
- Methods to estimate the total costs of ontology ownership; and
- Methods that help e quantify the business value, in the sense of operational and strategic benefits, of ontology-based systems in organizations.
- Methods for evaluating ontologies and monitoring ontology development on a technical level, e.g.
- Metrics to evaluate and compare existing ontologies, ontology engineering methodologies, and tools in terms of technical quality and organizational fit
- Metrics to determine the usability of a particular ontology in a specific business scenario
- Methods to measure the interdependencies among ontologies and organizational processes; and
- Quality frameworks for ontologies, ontology engineering methodologies, methods and tools.
Especially welcome will be papers that integrate the various aspects of the enumerated problems.
[edit] SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS
We invite submissions of short or full papers reflecting both research in progress and validated results that address any relevant dimension of the problem. All papers will be peer-reviewed by at least two members of the Program Committee. Papers should be formatted in Springer LNCS format (http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html) and submitted as PDF documents. Full papers should be 15 pages, short papers should be up to 8 pages.
Submission of papers will take place electronically at http://conference.ag-nbi.de/sebiz06
For accepted submissions, at least one author must register for the workshop in order for the paper to appear in the proceedings and to be scheduled in the workshop program. Accepted papers will be published online at CEUR Workshop Proceedings.
