The following list documents media coverage of the Semantic MediaWiki project. Feel free to add further items as appropriate (newest top). Note that the Semantic MediaWiki page lists technical publications about the project itself.

  • 10/2007: The November issue of the German information technology magazine iX features a four-page article on SMW and its use in knowledge management as a cover topic
  • 02/2007: The German magazine managerSeminare publishes a short report on SMW, entitled "MediaWiki Reloaded," in its special issue e-le@rning.
  • 05/01/2007: Centiare, the anti-Wikipedia, is semantic. "A new wiki directory called Centiare has set itself up as the "anti-Wikipedia" that encourages contributors to take ownership of their own content in the directory, and even to monetize their editing efforts." It uses Semantic MediaWiki as one of its main selling points.
"The summary is to turn the universal encyclopedia into the universal database while simultaneously improving the quality of the encyclopedia. [...] I predict that Semantic MediaWiki also will be the killer application for the Semantic Web that so many have been skeptical of."
  • 04/12/2006: heute online, the online site of the news magazine of Germany's public broadcast ZDF, has an article on the Semantic Web and Semantic Wikipedia.
  • 30/11/2006: Austrian national broadcast ORF has a feature on Semantic MediaWiki in the wake of the Semantics keynote, see the article in ORF's futurezone
"This paper should be read by designers of volunteer or collaborative systems, and would be valuable to those studying cooperative work. Designers can find plans for implementing typed links and similar structures in a way used by others, and those curious about cooperation can judge the work required to label material compared with the benefits. The paper is straightforward and easily readable."
  • 08/2006: The German edition of Technology Review writes about AI, describing SMW as an example for future AI applications:
Interessant sind deshalb Projekte wie "ontoworld", bei dem das Online Lexikon Wikipedia mit "einer Ontology unterwandert wird", wie Kohlhase das liebevoll nennt. Der Trick: Man bringe die Verfasser der Wikipedia Einträge dazu, ihre Artikel mit semantischen Zusatzinformationen in einem speziellen – maschinenlesbaren – Format anzureichern. Die semantische Verknüpfung von Artikeln ergibt eine sogenannte ontologie – ein Netz aus Sachverhalten und ihren Beziehungen zuenander, das bestimme Wissensbereiche mehr oder weniger genau abbildet- Aus diesem Netz ließe sich beispielsweise von einem KI-Programm neues Wissen ableiten, das nie explizit formuliert wurde.
