Austria borders Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Italy, Switzerland and Liechtenstein. There live about 8,206,524 (by 2005) people in Austria. The official currency is the Euro. Austria is a member of the European Union since 1995.

The official language is German. Slovenian, Croatian and Hungarian as well as the Austrian Sign Language are also state-approved.
